Ann-Kristin Jones was born in the Dalecarlia-region of Sweden in 1975. Her love of music was apparent from an early age and her significant talents were nurtured by the musical environment of her native town Leksand. After studies at the Falun Music Conservatory and The Norwegian Music Academy in Oslo, she was admitted to the Opera School at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, as well as to the Soloist Class of professor Susanna Eken from which she graduated with distinction in 2004.
Jones made her stage debut in the title role in Händel’s Orlando at Den Ny Opera in Esbjerg, Denmark, in 2001 while still a student at the Opera School and the year after she made her debut at the Drottningholm Court Theatre as Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte. She has sung Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Drottningholm Court Theatre, Gothenburg Opera and at Malmö Opera, where she also has sung Siébel in Gounod’s Faust, a role she later repeated in Christof Loy’s production at the Gothenburg Opera. Other roles she has sung in Gothenburg are Olga (Eugene Onegin), Knappe/Blumenmädchen (Parsifal), Sesto (Giulio Cesare), Bradamante (Alcina) and in the autumn of 2009 she appeared as Josefa in the world premiere opera production of Daniel Börtz’s Goya. Other roles in Jones repertoire include Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Amore/Giunone (Il ritorno d’Ulisse) and Giovanna (Anna Bolena). In December 2009 Ann-Kristin Jones made her debut at The Royal Opera in Stockholm as Dorabella.
Ann-Kristin Jones is also an experienced soloist in concert and oratorio and her significant repertoire include all of the main oratorios as well as orchestral songs by Mahler, Zemlinsky and Wagner. She has collaborated with conductors as Lars-Ulrik Mortensen, Laurence Cummings, Gian-Carlo Andretta, Paul Hillier, Arnold Östman, Robert King, Pietro Rizzo, John Adams, Henrik Schaefer and Christophe Rousset. In concert Ann-Kristin Jones has appeared with period ensembles as Les Talens Lyriques and Concerto Copenhagen as well as with the symphony orchestras in Aarhus, Sønderjylland and Odense. She has also appeared with the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish Radio Sinfonietta, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, DalaSinfoniettan, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Ann-Kristin Jones has been the recipient of several scholarships with numerous awards from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and she has made many recordings for Swedish, Norwegian and Danish Radio as well as for Swedish Television. 2008 was a very successful year for Ann-Kristin Jones in terms of competition. She was one of three finalists in the major Swedish soloist competition “Solistpriset” and she was also a prize winner at the Wilhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition.
The season 2011-2012 Ann-Kristin Jones will sing Maffio Orsini in Donizetti´s Lucrezia Borgia, directed by Christof Loy and conducted by Giancarlo Andretta, at the Gothenburg Opera, where she, after a three-year soloist engagement, now appears as a guest artist.
